Climate Resilience Grant
A five-part series showcasing the NH Conservation Districts Climate Resilience Grant.
What we brought to the (farm) table
Slate Roof Films has a long history of working with non-profits. When we were approached to bid for this project—a 5-part series highlighting different farms across New Hampshire combating climate change—we were thrilled. Ever since finishing out first documentary feature film Brew Hampshire we had been pining at the chance to showcase New Hampshire farmers, as we had been given a small taste of farm-to-table through our tour of breweries in the state.
How to Film on Farms
This wasn’t our first rodeo filming on farms in New Hampshire, but it was definitely the most involved. Being a 501c3, the client had a tight budget, but we wanted to do our best to deliver as we really believed in the cause. So with a crew of one, sometimes two, we set off to travel around New Hampshire—from just over the Massachusetts border, all the way to being able to see Canada. The most taxing hurdle aside from travel and crew was surviving the New Hampshire summer weather.
We brought a pop up and built a makeshift HQ out of the back of the production van, but the real hero was the mobile refrigeration unit that was powered by a massive Anker battery bank. Having cold drinks available and a shady place to take a break quite literally made this production possible, as often there are no places to rest or be in the shade on a farm in the summer.
